The awakening aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg welcome you to the small island country of Grenada, where Peter de Savary – developer of the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle in Scotland and the Abaco Club in the Bahamas – hopes you will fi nd the St. Tropez of the Caribbean. De Savary is in the beginning stages of what he estimates will be a five-year, $500m development plan, encumbering two hotel and real estate developments and two outposts in the interior of the island. Mount Cinammon, a collection of 21 turnkey fully-furnished designer homes set upon a hill over looking Grand Anse Beach, already has 75 percent of its first phase under contract. Another 20 units will be constructed in phase two. The project will include a 125-room beach hotel with abundant resort facilities offering full or fractional owner-ship. The clubhouse already houses Savvy – a refreshingly laidback restaurant featuring Italian fare with a Caribbean twist; a pool, tennis courts, a gym and spa treatment rooms. The maritime village of Port Louis will be able to accommodate 300 yachts up to 300 feet and will include commercial and residential real estate. Contracts are already in the works with a major brokerage house as well as high-end retail shops. The first 50 slips will be available for the winter season starting at $185 per square foot. A Christmas and New Year’s holiday package is in the works for those looking for an “off the beaten path” and laid-back vacation. De Savary’s two interior island outposts – Mount Edgecombe Plantation and Tufton Hall – will be welcome retreats from the bustling town of St. George’s. Mt. Edgecombe – a restored plantation home – will be available for day trips. Guests can hike the plantation grounds, pick their own breakfast fruits or take a dip in the infinity pool overlooking the blue Caribbean waters. Tufton Hall – set in the tropical rainforest – will offer Grenada’s first eco-spa with organic and herbal treatments as well as treks to swim in the natural waterfalls of the island. Located on the southern tip of the Windward Islands, Grenada is 100 miles off the coast of Venezuela. With perfect year-round temperatures tempered by the north-west tradewinds, the waters of Grenada make for enviable sailing year-round. Grenada’s landscape stretches out to the ocean like fingers – each is a secluded beach where at every turn, a new restaurant or seaside resort lies. –DA |
